GLENGARRY CLARIFICATION - In my last post I referred to Glengarry Glen Ross, David Mamet's acerbic indictment of the Reagan era, as "darkly comic." Let me be clear: Glengarry cannot, by any reasonable criteria, be called a comedy. But if hearing Kevin Spacey implore Alan Arkin,"Will you get out of here. Will you get out of here. Will you? I’m trying to run an office here. Now will you go to lunch. Go to lunch. Will you go to lunch," or Alec Baldwin deliver his How To Win Friends and Motivate Salesmen Speech: "A, I, D, A. Attention, interest, decision, action. Attention: do I have your attention? Interest: are you interested? I know you are 'cause it's fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision: have you made your decision for Christ? And action. A, I, D, A," isn't comic gold, I don't know what is.
