DE NIRO VS. PACINO REDUX - About three weeks ago (9/5), I posited the question, "Which Godfather needs a new agent?" It was basically a response to a local movie critic remarking in his review of Simone that Al Pacino had acted in a string of unforgettable roles over the last ten years -- a statement not supported by Pacino's resume, which includes Scent of a Woman, Glengarry Glen Ross, Donnie Brasco, The Insider, and Heat. I went on to point out how, despite being one of the best actors ever, Robert De Niro has been in more unforgettable movies over the last decade or so, much to the chagrin of one of my readers. I'm revisiting this debate because ESPN.com Page 2 writer Bill Simmons -- by far the most entertaining, plugged-in sports/pop culture columnist on the planet right now -- provides a comprehensive assessment in today's column. Scroll down about halfway to where you see this question from one of his readers: Q: My friends and I loved the "Cheers" vs. "Seinfeld" debate that you wrote a couple of months ago. But what about the ultimate Dr. Jack breakdown: Pacino vs. De Niro? Good stuff.
